How to stop stressing about your move?

A stress free move is it even possible? Okay – it may not be possible to eliminate all stress with the move, but you can keep stress at a minimum if you go about it the right way.

Focus on the positive
It is easy to get overwhelmed by all of the things you have to do. When it starts to be too much, take a moment to sit down and think about all the positive things which will come out of the move. Even if you are moving for a not-so-happy reason, like a divorce or needing to downsize your home, there are still lots of positives – like that you won’t have to clean such a large home anymore or deal with that annoyingly drafty kitchen.

Do tasks together
Moving requires a lot of work, but it is also a good excuse to spend some quality time with your family members. Go about tasks like purging or packing with your family members. You can reminisce about the stories behind belongings. Having a good laugh over the funny cat sculpture that grandma bought you can do wonders at alleviating the stress.

Just throw it out
The biggest cause of stress during a move is about how to pack up all those belongings. The more stuff you have to pack, the more your move will cost too – and cost is another major stressor about moving. Reduce the stress by just tossing out any items you are unsure about.

Download lots of to-do moving lists
Not sure what tasks need to be done before a move? Don’t worry – someone else has already made the to-do list for you. You can download all sorts of moving to-do lists online and there are even plenty of moving apps to. These lists cover everything from packing, questions to ask moving companies, budgeting for the move, change of address notifications, and more.

Ask for help with the kids and pets
On moving day, you don’t want to worry about where your kids are or that your pets got loose. Ask neighbors or friends if they can watch over them. If you aren’t close with your neighbors, then get a babysitter.

Get out of the house
Our homes are usually a place of solace and peace, where we can go to escape from the stressful world of work, traffic, and business. When you are preparing for a move though, your home turns into chaos and just reminds you of all the stuff you have to do by moving day. Reducing moving stress can be as simple as going for a walk to get out of your home for a bit.
